MILITARY: Shedding Up to 8% Of Civilian Workforce Will Speed Decision Process
As the Navy and all of the services are working to make updates to their information and data systems in an effort that has saved more than $150 million already according to recent reports, the Pentagon is laying out its plans to reduce the civilian military workforce by 50,000 positions or about 8% of the overall total.
These reductions will be targeted by the civilian non-military positions of which there are currently more than 625,000 civilian employees within the Department of Defense/War.
The transitions will be offered first to employees through buy outs, retirement offers, and ultimately phasing out of roles. The budget allocated for these positions will, according to reporting, be reallocated within the military for other needs and resources.
