AAA reports today that California has the highest at the pump gas prices in the nation by 17% a gallon over the second highest state Hawaii, which has to import 100% of its fuel via shipping.

California drivers, employers and freight haulers pay a breathtaking $4.657 on average some 51.4% more than the national average of $3.076 per gallon.

In another stunning comparison, California drivers for the eighth month in a row and some 22 out of the last 24 months faced substantially higher gas prices than even Hawaii which came in with an average gas prices of $4.487 per gallon or roughly 4% lower than California.

Since nearly everything consumed in the economy is produced, transported, retailed, and then transported again back to its final consumption point using gasoline, diesel, or other petroleum product, that 51.9% in additional cost is spread across the in state economy of California.
