Food: While Organic Farming Grows To 5 Million Acres, Here Are 12 Dirtiest Crops

While industry statistics show organic farming in the United States grew to approximately 5 million acres, CNBC is reporting 95% of twelve of the most popular fruits and vegetables were sent to market with pesticide residue on them.

By 2032, the US market for commercially applied pesticides is expected to grow by 4.5% to nearly $29.9 billion. Part of the reason the market for commercial pesticides is growing slower than the overall economy is competition from certified organically raised foods which must pass a multistage certification process which includes ongoing field and crop examination and analysis.

The quality of American foods is absolutely critical to the development of the US economy and the AWE will continue to monitor changes in the marketplace both at the farm level, through distribution and delivery stages of production, and the choices American consumers are making on a daily basis.
