AAA: Californians Pay 42% More at the Pump Than National Average As 2025 Begins

2025 starts much like 2024 ended for California drivers according to the latest report on average gas prices at the pump in AAA’s most recent analysis of gas prices.

Facing the second highest gas prices in the state after Hawaii which must import all of its fuel via international freight shipping, California’s drivers face a statewide average fuel price of $4.357 per gallon or a little more than 42% higher than the national average.

As everything consumed or used requires some form of petroleum, higher energy costs are distributed in the cost of nearly everything in California’s commercial, retail, and wholesale marketplaces from food to finished consumer goods.
