Starlink: Over 50% Of New Subscribers Are New To Broadband
According to a recent industry analysis reported in Light Reading, over 50% of Starlink’s newest subscribers didn’t have access to broadband or in many cases the internet at their location.
Over the last four years, Starlink has grown into a top seven internet provider with now over 10.3 million subscribers while according to studies from Recon Analytics, New Street Research and others only 20% of those now utilizing Starlink’s service had broadband previously.
Since the mid-1990’s it has been a widely held policy goal internationally to provide high quality access to the internet and it looks like in the third decade of the 21st century that goal may be being reached by a market based solution in just a few years.
At current rates of growth, and based on the continued success of SpaceX launches and Starlink’s established revolutionary network of 11,000 low earth orbit satellites, the service launched essentially in 2021 will top out over 13 million subscribers by year’s end.
High quality internet access is essential for most organizations and employers and the Association of Western Employers will continue to track the development of this important story.
