NUCLEAR: Fusion Breakthroughs Break Established Records by 10X In Groundbreaking Medical, Materials Research
Breakthroughs in nuclear fusion, the combination of elements into new elemental and other isotopic material, at Marathon Fusion in San Francisco is producing results that are shattering decades old performance records often at a scale of 10X according to the company and its posting on X.
Marathon Fusion in a statement on X said:
“Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10.
Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years.
Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.”
While the creation of gold from mercury is eye popping and interesting, the production of clean energy, and designed isotopic material for medical research and industry is absolutely growing closer everyday based on the progress being made in nuclear fusion at Marathon and other companies.
The goal of energy production through sustained nuclear fusion is a decades old goal that several groups are making into a reality daily in California and in other research labs because instead of producing waste material like in a fission reaction, fusion actually produces new material with very little waste.
What is that material and how badly is it needed?
Medical isotope production for the treatment of some of the most difficult diseases to cure has been in critical and chronic shortage since the field was created.
Gold from mercury and other base metals has been the goal of alchemy and one of the drivers of chemical research for nearly a millenia.
And while these breakthroughs are not at a commercial scale yet because of the huge promise fusion holds, we will continue to track this story.
